LP collection

I have been meaning to write this post a long time ago but I have been too lazy to write it. The reason for it is long forgotten but the reason I wanted to write this post is this article I read in a newspaper here in Brazil about a guy who collects rare LP's. I wish I could be like him but I don't have the money to do it. The most I have done so far is a few CD's.

Changes (not the David Bowie song)

Well, today I decided to change the title of my blog to "My Hobbies". I decided that I will write my experiences about the two most important hobbies to me: Music and Photography.

I know I am not a professional in either but I will try to explain a little bit about both. Maybe I can use both my hobbies to achieve the same goal. If I am lucky, I can meet a famous artist and take a picture and upload here. The #1 artist I wish I could meet is Paramore. Their song "That's What You Get" is stuck in my head and it is the song that made me start this blog. I already had an idea of starting a blog but the song gave me the extra push so, thank you, Paramore.

Jerry's Records

It's been a very long while since I posted my first post and I think I owe an apology to the people who read this blog once before.

This time I am writing about a documentary about hoarders that I watched the other day. In the documentary, it showed a guy that collects vynils and he was considered a hoarder. First of all, this is kind of hoarding I want to have mainly because I love music. I don't think collecting records should be considered hoarding. It's an unusual type collection because there is a lot of records in the world. I think collecting records is the same as collecting books. There is a lot of titles out there and collecting them is a hobby. Books and records can be very entertaining, they can make you happy, they can make you sad and even instigate you. And, most of all, if you have more than one copy of the same book, you can sell or donate one of the books and keep the one that is more valuable. The same principle is valid to records.

What I just imagined is that Jerry needs a very big place to store his records. Or, as said in the documentary, he has three places where he stores his records. I don't know if I heard right but I think he owns about 2 million records. It's a very big number but when it comes to how many artists there are in the world, I think it's not far from the truth. So far, I don't have near 1% of that number. I guess I have 0.01% of that. I hope I can come to that number someday. I can safely say that he is my idol.

Global Jukebox by Alan Lomax

Well, here goes my first post of what is going to be my blog.

I was reading an article about a project by Alan Lomax called Global Jukebox and I thought it was interesting because I want to do something a little bit similar to this project.

In this interactive educational computer project called Global Jukebox, all of Alan Lomax's work on folk music (5,000 hours of sound recordings, 400,000 feet of film, 3,000 videotapes, and 5,000 photographs) would be digitalized and made available for free streaming and later some of the music would be sold as CD's or digital downloads.

My project is about music too but containing every kind of music, including those ones I don't like. My idea is to try to connect all kinds of music throught collaborations, influences and even copying. In my concept, every piece of music has some kind of connection with another piece of music, no matter how faint it is. Along with the research, I would be writing all the discoveries in this blog.

I would like to comment on every singer/group ability but since I am not a experienced trained musician, my remarks would be of an average person who once tried to be a musician. As some people say, those who are good play, those who aren't, criticise.
